Makers
Makers who can do it for you
Not everyone wants to sew their own wedding dress, and that's fine. These are small studios and services that make custom pieces for a dress you already have, or redesign it completely. We don't take a cut from any of them.
Sleeves and straps
- Marginelli (London): handmade detachable straps and sleeves.
Capes
- Tania Maras (Canberra): custom bridal capes, shipped worldwide.
Redesigning an heirloom dress
- Unbox the Dress: mail-in redesigns of mothers' and grandmothers' gowns.
Color
- Renegade Bridal (Texas): dyes gowns bought elsewhere, ombre included.
Closer to home
For most changes, a local bridal alterations shop is still the best place to start. They can see the dress on you, which no one can do by mail. Ask to see photos of work like yours, and bring pictures of what you want. The project pages each say what to ask for:
- Sleeves or straps
Detachable or sewn in.
- Lace, beading or pearls
Bring the appliqués you chose.
- A bustle
Usually at the final fitting.
- Neckline or back
Illusion necklines and corset backs.
